Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken on my deck in Raymond, NH USA

Time

I took this picture mid morning on the 9th of June, 2012. It was the first male I had seen at our feeder that was making multiple trips to it.

Lighting

Was a beautiful, sunny morning, that's about it.

Equipment

Canon Rebel T3I 18-55mm lens, hand held with 1/1250 shutter speed and a f/7.1

Inspiration

I was hoping to get a male Ruby Throat Hummingbird in mid flight approaching the feeder. I had already got a few females at the same feeder the day before and had only seen the male a couple times before I took this.

Editing

I used Photoshop to lighten the image and to do a little cropping

In my camera bag

I always have a few filters for color and a polarized one. I 50mm lens, 18-55mm lens & a 55-250mm lens. A speed light and an extra battery although I use a double battery extension.

Feedback

Be patient and use a tripod. I took multiple photos to get the stop action I was looking for. Also make sure to turn your shutter speed up to make the wings look clear and not blurry.
