Location
This image was taken in Broome in Western Australia. The camels are an icon of the area and most tourists have a camel ride at some point with the sunset ride being the most popular.Time
Sunset on the 6th July 2010Lighting
The lighting is always lovely at this time of day and is often referred to as the Golden hour. It adds a beautiful warm feel to the image. The main thing you need to watch here is the tide, to get the good reflections you have to have the camels walking on the wet sand. Usually they go out along the wet sand and back along the ry or visa versa.Equipment
Fuji S200EXR, this is a bridge camera. I use these as I have osteoarthritis and so have a limit to what I can carry. I have a manfoto tripod which I was using. My settings were ISO100, 1/320 shutter speed,35mm focal length and f7.1 for aperture. I also had a polarizing filter on.Inspiration
I had been down the beach every night for a week waiting for the time and setting to be right so my inspiration was the desire to capture that one special shot of Broome.Editing
I shoot in RAW so did white balance adjustment and did a levels adjustment. I also retouched some of the shadows that were not as clear as they are here.In my camera bag
My camera, a bridge or super zoom camera, and a spare point and shoot that can shoot in RAW, polarizing and ND Filters, I have a UV filter on my camera, remote release, ring flash, off camera flash, tripod and reflectors.Feedback
Be patient, go down to the beach each night an hour before sunset and keep trying until you get what you want.
