When I first started making photographs I was taught never to aim directly into the sun. Turning this lesson around and using the bright sky as a backlight showcases the serendipitous materiality of chromogenic film. I soaked a roll of color film in gelatin-based food coloring, froze the emulsion, and reeled it through a 35mm camera. The resulting images show the interplay between a small, cold object on earth and the burning hot fire of a star.
