Behind The Lens

Location

In the city where I used to study, we have this amazing stairs that unify the two parts of the city. It was a favorite place to sit there and watch the view, and the passers-by. So this was a quiet afternoon, with a friend of mine, and as always I had my camera with me. And this man decided to carry his bike and climb the stairs, instead of using another road that goes straight to the upper city.

Time

I don't want to search on the properties of the photo right now, cause the exact time is not really important. It always depends on how everything feels where you are. So it was mid-September, during the exams period, early afternoon. That means, not many people in the streets. But such a nice weather, a perfect excuse for a walk out of the house.

Lighting

It was not a shooting day for me. But I didn't forget my camera. For good! With such a bright light, that was filtered by the tree leaves. This created an amazing effect that drew my attention since the beginning.

Equipment

It was shot with a Canon EOS 400D, and a Sigma lens 18-200mm. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

It was a spontaneous moment. And I was not prepared, but the subject worthed hurrying to take out my camera. I had the time to take 5 or 6 photos until he disappeared. That was one of my first street photos and it inspired me for some more.

Editing

Not really. I fixed a bit the contrast and colors. I chose the black and white, because it made the man disappear in the trees and I really liked that. It emphasizes in the light conditions.

In my camera bag

I only have my Canon EOS 400D, with the Sigma 18-200mm. As I am really used to that and want to be quick sometimes, I don't have to change lenses and settings. I am an amateur photographer so I enjoy what I do with what I already have!

Feedback

When going out for just a walk or for a specific reason, like an event in the streets of your city, don't ever leave your camera back, cause you never know when the right subject will be there. And very very important is to check your settings and battery before leaving the house! Maybe you went for night photoshooting before and the ISO is still 3600 or so. Just check your settings and battery and change what is completely wrong! For example ISO or WB. Otherwise you will miss the moment! And good luck!
