This photo was taken at Inverness in Northern California. I was on my way back from shooting at the Point Reyes lighthouse and saw this building, and just had to turn around and take a few shots of it. Still one of my favorite photosTime
This was taken sometime mid afternoon in full sunlight, which I usually don't do, but just had to shoot this cool looking building.Lighting
this was taken with full sunlight. In order to get the shot I wanted I had to use my ND400 filter and a tripodEquipment
This shot was taken with a Pentax K20d (still my favorite camera) with the standard 18-55mm lens. I had an ND400 filter on it ion order to get the long exposure I wanted. F:11 at 30 seconds was the exposure at 100 ISOInspiration
I was driving back from Point Reyes and saw the building thru the trees and knew I had to turn around and try and get a shot of it. As an architect I love shooting buildings, and I really love shooting old rusty or junky looking things,, so this was the best of all of that.Editing
Only post I did on this was to sharpen and convert to black & whiteIn my camera bag
I always carry the following gear. Samsung NX1 mirrorless with an 18-55mm and 55-300mm lenses Sony NEX7 with the same lenses. And my trusty Pentax K20d with an assortment of lenses Monfrotto tripod, and various filters. My favorite filter being my ND400 ( I love doing long exposures and this is perfect for that)Feedback
Never hesitate to stop and take the picture. I could have easily just kept driving after a long morning of shooting elsewhere. I think too often we pass up photos we want to take just because we are focused on going somewhere else. Stop and take the photo, I don't think you will ever regret it.
