This photo was taken in my backyard several years ago. My 3 granddaughters had come for dinner and then taken their ice pops out to the hammock to eat them.Time

It was taken under the open shade of a big oak tree where the light was diffused and flat.Equipment
I used an Olympus 3meg point and shoot camera that I no longer own. No tripod, no flash.Inspiration
The girls have always been my best models and still are today. Just like their mother and uncle when they were growing up, they are accustomed to me always pointing a camera at them and they do not shy away.Editing
There were several photos out of this set that were all pretty good but this is the one I liked best and thought it might convert to black and white very well with the broad stripes in the hammock contrasting the stripes and patterns on their clothing. I processed it in PhotoShop and although I'm not a big fan of black and white with isolated color, I tried it here using a B&W gradient adjustment layer, and thought it worked quit well.In my camera bag
I have a Canon T3i with 18-55mm and 55-250mm lenses.Feedback
Taking candids of children can be difficult and frustrating at times but if you leave them alone and not over direct them they will eventually reward you with some nice shots. Be patient and be ready.
