Location
I took this photo in my house. I was pet sitting this adorable dog named RalphieTime
My boyfriend brought Ralphie home in the evening. We played with him for a couple hours and I decided to grab my camera and shoot their interactions that night.Lighting
I really wanted a creamy depth of field to bring out the detail in Ralphie. This was primarily natural light (as natural as a normally lit living room would be). The hair light is coming from the lights in my kitchen and his key light is a lamp that was behind me.Equipment
This was shot with my old Pentax K-x. I used a 1970s 50mm prime lens. Old lenses are such great glass.Inspiration
Ralphie just looked so cute and unique. He's a mixed breed pup and I'd never seen any other dog look like him.Editing
I used a more sepia tone for editing. I also really like to bring down my shadows and bring up my highlights in my contrast curve. In my camera bag
This is an older image but presently I bring my K-3, 50-135mm, 10-24mm, 50mm, and an 85mm. I also bring a couple pocket wizards and an external flash just in case I might need them.Feedback
Be quick with your shots. Animals move so fast you might lose the moment.
