Behind The Lens

Location

Eben jct, Michigan. about a one mile hike at the end of Frey rd. You first have to walk through a field that is privately owned. Then you enter the woods which is state land. Many people visit the ice caves so the path is usually hard snow packed. Depending on the time of winter you go. This only has become very popular due to the internet. It is not a advertised attraction.

Time

I shot this picture at 11:24 am on March 31 2014

Lighting

The day was pretty much overcast late winter gray.

Equipment

I used a Nikon d300s along with a Tokina 11-16 2.8 lens. F/6.3 1/640 sec. ISO 200 in Aperture priority. Hand held

Inspiration

To be honest with you this used to be on my uncles property years ago. My family and local people would be about the only ones that would hike back there. Then he sold it to the State and then came the internet. So in some aspects it has become very popular. At any rate I always wanted to shoot it and have the picture made into a metal print. Which I have done and it is in my living room. It looks great.

Editing

A little in photoshop with cropping for my metal print as well with some contrast changes.

In my camera bag

Nikon d300s, Nikon d200, Lens Nikon 70-200 2.8 , 18-200 3.5, 60mm 2.8 nikkor macro. Tokina 11-16mm 2.8, Tamron 24-70mm 2.8. Nikon Flashes sb900, sb800, sb600, Nikon wireless speedlight commander su-800 and batteries galore. as well as cleaning clothes.

Feedback

know your lighting before you go. Bring only what you may need. for this, to travel light is better. Unless you want to pull a sled full of equipment.
