When together, if faced by a deadly oncoming predator that will inevitably kill one of them, they begin stotting. Stotting is when they run away but use their energy to jump as high as possible instead of using that energy to run faster. The highest jumper is the most healthy, whereas the lowest jumper is the least healthy so the predator will chase that one, securing the easiest kill for them, whilst all the other impala get away.
