Location
This photo was taken along a back road near Monticello Kentucky.Time
I drove these roads everyday for three years. It seemed like most of the time there was a morning mist/fog covering the land. I got up early one fall, Saturday morning, and drove the 45 minutes to the area. I had taken photos of several farms, when I came up on this fence. The old fence post and barbed wire drew me in and I captured a few frames.Lighting
The early morning light thru the fog, creates a giant softbox effect. I also love how the light, and the detail falls off in the distance.Equipment
This was shot with my old Olympus Evolt E500, with the kit lens at 28mm. Hand held, no flash.Inspiration
A year of driving past these great locations kept screaming at me to slow down and take the time to capture them. I had finished with the sites that I had planned on, when I noticed this great fence line.Editing
This photo required a mild crop and a curves adjustment. In my camera bag
For these photos I was carrying my Olympus camera, two lenses and a small flash. It is a light kit that lets me hike into remote areas without a lot of excess weight.Feedback
To capture morning fog, I look for warm days, and cool nights. Early fall and spring, usually create conditions with high humidity, and calm winds. A really great morning will have a bit of overcast, which will extend the fog later into the morning.
