"Quiet, very quiet. At a reunion with friends. Early morning, sitting by myself, and enjoying the peace and beauty." is what I thought I typed. Sorry about the confusion in transmission. This is an Ontario scene.

Behind The Lens

Location

Taken from the dock of a friend's home (The Kermitage) at Lyndhurst Lake, Ontario, north of Gananoque, Ontario.n the St. Lawrence River.

Time

I was at the reunion of a group of school teachers and spouses. I'm an early riser and grabbed the chance to enjoy the beauty and quiet of this time by myself. I love the feel of this photo. It reflects quite clearly the feeling that I had when I took it, just as the morning mists were still heavy on the lake and the sun was rising.

Lighting

Although I did take a couple of other photos that more directly included the sun, but this one, which reminds me somewhat of an oil painting, had the feeling of the spreading warmth.

Equipment

I am not a professional photographer and did not keep a record, sorry. Other than the camera with a clean lens and my steady hand and careful eye for composition, I used nothing. I was just fortunate.

Inspiration

If you have to ask, I'm not sure I could make you understand. I think the stillness, the purity, the lighting, the contrast of near and far, sharp, angular vs. rounded shapes, speak for themselves. (I'm fascinated by the interplay of fog or mist and light/s of different kinds. I am a writer and editor. A few of the poems I've written feature fog, as do other photos I've taken.)

Editing

I did no post-processing.

In my camera bag

At that time, the camera I owned then with no extra lens equipment.

Feedback

I've been more fortunate than wise in some of the beautiful photos I've managed. It would depend upon what it is you wish to photograph, but for one like this, I'd recommend aiming to be alone, so that you can calmly breathe in the atmosphere before you even try to take a picture, look for something that you just don't want to let escape unrecorded, keep perspective in mind by including something or part of something that will make it more obvious, keep aware of the periphery as well as your chosen centre of attention, keep steady and/or use a camera such as we have now, a Canon SLR EOS 70D, which has stabilizer. This one has a lens cap which dangles down and drives me crazy. Sometimes I take it off, which drives my husband crazy.
