One of the most famous sites of East Boston is the 11-meter statue of the Madonna in the highest part of Orient Heights. Built in 1956 for the Don Orione order, the statue is a replica of the original of Don Orione Center in Montemario, Rome, Italy. It was designed by Arrigo Minerbi by gratitude for the protection he gave the Catholic Church against the Nazis during World War II.
