Behind The Lens

Location

I took this in the Summertime in my parents garden many years ago. I just loved how the colour of the ladybird matched the poppy, they seemed to go together like bread and butter. Same colour, but still managed to both stand out together.

Time

I think this was taken around midday, when the temperature was peaking for the day and the ladybird seemed to be taking full advantage to be in the sunlight.

Lighting

I always try to shoot a photo with no flash, as it seems so much better and more natural. Not that it was needed in full sunlight, so I set the camera to macro mode and used it to focus on the ladybird and the flower as much as possible for my skillset at the time.

Equipment

Just my trusty Nikon D3000, the aperture at F/5.6 and focal length at 55 mm. And me holding my breath praying the ladybird wouldn't decide to move.

Inspiration

I just loved the colour concept, and how sweet and perfect they looked together. I am a nature photographer by heart and love trying to capture small details of flowers and insects.

Editing

I used a very basic Windows editing software at the time I think, just to enhance the colours a little but did not want to overdo it.

In my camera bag

Just my Nikon D3000, and nowadays my macro lens. I try to travel as light as possible.

Feedback

Don't not take the chance to capture something that catches your eye, if it doesn't come out well, you've gained just a little bit more experience maybe, and if it does, you'll have learnt something maybe and got a great shot, another chance to show people what you can do.
