Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at "JOHNNY MANGO'S" a wonderful flower nursery on North Fed HWY in Delray Beach

Time

10:07 AM 2/22/2014

Lighting

Natural light, diffused through the ceiling

Equipment

Hand held Canon EOS-M with EF 18-33 F3.5-5.6 IS STM 1/60, 160 iso 49mm f/5.6 I also had my trusty EOS 60D

Inspiration

I took photos all hundred or so flowers with both the EOS-M telephoto then switched to a macro lens on my Canon D60. It was of many great pic I to took that day

Editing

This is important part: 1, All were loaded into Adobe Lightoom as TIFs 2. Next I color corrected them to not overexpose the whites. 3. Next I used NIK HDR for single frames to gently bring out the edges 4. THen selected photos were converted to B&W with NIK Silver_EFX probably the "wet rocks" setting

In my camera bag

I have two bags: 1 small with the EOS-M, a canon EFM macro lens, and a M-EF ring adaptor if I want to bring of my canon L lenses.. Also 2 extra bateries and charger, extra SD Cards 1 large with Canon 5D Mk4 with canon 20-200L, 18-24L, 50 1.4f., 100 f2, 28-55L 2,8f, also extra batteries, Charger, extra SD cards. Depending where I am going a have a pair of Canon 320 flashes and two Gary Fong light diffusers, extra tripod for 2nd flash, wireless flash controller, light reflector

Feedback

Photos are easy subjects, but its the bright sun and shadows and wind movement adds to the challenge. I prefer indoors at flowershops and semi opaque roofed or tented buildings or tents. An introduction to the manager and obtaining permission to shoot from them will go a long way. I made a book (on BLURB) "Johhny Mango Flowers" for 17$ and gave it to them on return visit. I am warmly welcomed each time I go back. Even giving them a print and / or credit is a good thing to do! Try all sorts of angles and macro to wide of the flowers you shoot. MOST OF ALL HAVE FUN.
