Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in the fall of 2010 in a friend's backyard working on a class assignment called decisive moment.

Time

It was the middle of the afternoon and the cat had finally gotten used to me being there when it decided to approach me.

Lighting

It was a fall afternoon with the perfect natural light for photos.

Equipment

It was shot with a simple Fujifilm point and shoot camera with the flash off and no tripod.

Inspiration

My professor had told us to capture a decisive moment and the cat deciding to approach me was the perfect fit. She has since passed away and this is my favorite photo of her.

Editing

The white part of the photo was actually a yellowing fence which I decided to erase and leave blank to make the cat pop out more with her tail breaking up the background. For the foreground I simply hoped the contrast.

In my camera bag

I used to always carry my point and shoot camera since it easily fit in my pocket but now I just carry my phone. I bought it specifically for it's amazing picture quality.

Feedback

Cats are always an interesting subject and can add mystery to an image when looking right at the camera.
