Location
I took this image in May 2013, while I was working on a photo project about the steam trains in North Wales, United Kingdom. The train was waiting for its departure through Snowdonia to Caernarvon in Porthmadog train station and I was impress by the colour and all the pipes and tubes so nicely aligned.Time
It was midday and a cloudy weather. I prefer a grey sky as it will not give strong shades on the subject and the colors will be strong and realistic.Lighting
A gray sky will be boring at first, but after you start making pictures, you will realize that you can capture all those amazing details of your subject. The colors will be powerful and if you know how to make use of a good composition and a good angle, you will start to hunt the cloudy days.Equipment
For this particular image I used my old Canon 40D with one of the best lens available for digital cameras, the 85mm f/1.2 from Canon. I choose this combination because of the crop factor given by the small senzor of my 40D, so technically, the focal distance was 135 mm.Inspiration
The subject itself.Editing
I make only raw files and I only make some small adjustments in the Digital Photo Professional, the program that comes with the camera. Just small things on sharpness, contrast, exposure or color. I use Photoshop if I find some disturbing marks on the pictures, such as dust.In my camera bag
I always have my Canon 40D with 17-85 mm, but for more important project I use Canon 5D mk II or mk III. The lens I regularly use are: 85mm f/1.2, 24-70mm f/2.8 and sometimes Canon 100mm f/2. I always have a cleaning kit, a spare battery and different filters: UV, ND and circular PL.Feedback
Find beauty in everything. Stop thinking about everyday life and enjoy the moment. Use the gear that makes you happy and gives you a nice feeling. Work in all possible conditions and try to capture the soul of the things that interest you. Be inspired, but never copy. Do not try to reproduce something because you can not. Be yourself even if you are not that good. I prefer to make pictures in my own personal style and give them a personal touch, not to be another brick in the wall, even if that brick is made of gold.
