Location
I took this picture of model Megan George during a Royal Oak Photography Meetup group event (hosted by Amy Claeys). We had four sets of models (3 individuals and a couple). We broke into four groups and took over the city, periodically switching models and locations. I got about four minutes with Megan and I tried to make the most of it! Luckily, Megan is always beautiful.Time
I believe it was mid-to-late afternoon.Lighting
I had three speedlites batched up in a shoot-through umbrella on a lightstand slightly camera left. One Canon 580ex, and two Canon 430ex's. All triggered by a cowboy studio npt-04 trigger/receiver system.Equipment
Canon 40d, Canon 50mm f1.4 @ f2, 1/200, iso 100.Inspiration
Only had four minutes! I was inspired by Megan's beauty and stress!Editing
I post-processed in Lightroom and SilverEfex Pro. Gave it sepia toning and high structure/clarity. I rarely do that to a human subject, but I experimented, liked the look, and Megan's features and skin texture could handle the effect. In my camera bag
Currently a Canon 6D, and Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 (I LOVE this lens). Usually a 50mm f1.4 is in the bag as well as a 24-105 f4. Sometimes a 100mm macro and a 10-20 wide. Also, three YN600ex-rt flashes and their radio trigger. ND filters, lots of memory cards. Batteries, batteries, batteries!Feedback
Watch those backgrounds, keep them simple or offering something worthwhile, like leading lines or color. Figure out your settings before you bring in the subject, then make your subject as comfortable as possible. Try to balance your ambient like and flash. Make a conscious decision -- make the flash work for you but look like nature, or make your subject really pop off the background. Either way, but do it intentionally. Natural expressions are worth a gazillion so really communicate with the subject and make the comfortable and relaxed. Oh, and book humans who are lovely on the inside and on the outside, too!
