I took this photo in my native place, Kadakinbail, a small village in the heartland of Western Ghats, Karnataka, India. It happens to be one of my favorite places to take and make photos.Time
This is a shot of the rising sun. I remember, it was the day of my brother's wedding. Everyone was busy getting dolled up in order to look their best and I was up in the balcony of the house with my camera, trying to carefully balance myself on the rails so that I can avoid some rooftops from peeping into the frame and of course, falling down too!Lighting
It's purely a natural light aided shot. It was a beautiful morning for many reasons and I waited for the sun to come up until there was ample light to capture the scene.Equipment
This photo was taken with Canon PowerShot SX110 IS. Flash wasn't used.Inspiration
I love my village for the raw feel it has and for all the lush greeneries and tranquility around. Originally, the plan was to capture a sunrise from a hilltop nearby. Due to lack of time, I decided to go with this balcony shot. I'm glad I did. I was able to get this silhouette of the tree and I had a blast shooting this particular scene, hiding from my family and trying not to topple down from the roofEditing
Since this is a hand held shot, I opted for a bit of sharpening. Otherwise, I loved the way it turned out and didn't want to alter it in anyway. In my camera bag
These days, I shoot with Canon EOS 600D coupled with Canon EF-S 18-55mm lens or with Canon EF-S 55-250mm lens. I tend to use EF-S 18-55mm lens while capturing our son in action for our private collection and for taking the close ups of tiny flowers and stuffs. But mostly EF-S 55-250mm lens ends up accompanying me while shooting landscapes, birds, street shots etc.Feedback
For capturing the silhouettes like this one, with natural light in the background, make sure you have an interesting subject to go ahead with. Do not use the flash. Light and colors during dawn and dusk pave way for beautiful photographs. So silhouettes captured during these hours are likely to be interesting and colorful. I have come to realize that it is not the equipment which makes great photos but it is one's vision and at times, the moments which bring in the element of brilliance to the images. So take out the time to go out, look around, plan and execute your shots and most importantly, enjoy the process!!
