Hamadryas arinome
BLUE CRACKER* BUTTERFLY Hamadryas arinome. Cracker butterflies (also called Calico butterflies) are a neotropical group of medium-sized brush-footed butterfly species commonly found throughout South America to
Arizona. At least nine species can be found in Costa Rica. They acquired their common name due to the unusual way that males produce a “cracking” sound as part of their territorial displays. In the field, Hamadryas emit audible clicks when approached by potential predators.

This shot was composed in the Key West Butterfly Observatory in Key West, FL in low light conditions.Time
My wife and I entered the observatory around noon. It was a very busy shoot with so many beautiful butterflies to see. Luckily the Blue Cracker lay still long enough for this shot!Lighting
The Light was low due to there not being direct sunlight in the observatory. Light conditions are kept low purposely. I had no tripod at the time and the shot had to be quick!Equipment
The composition was on a Nikon 5300D with a 200mm zoom lens.Inspiration
The Inspiration was a one shot deal so to speak feeling privileged to be in the observatory which is a long distance from home.Editing
There was just a slight crop completed on this image. In my camera bag
This was my old Nikon 5300D with 200mm zoom and a 50mm regular. Now I only have the need for my Nikon P900 which has everything I need with no lens changes.Feedback
Practice composing yourself to be still on every shot! Keep your finger ready on the trigger at all times to capture as many shots as you can of the same subject especially if they can move at any time.
