Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my bedroom and the person in the photo is my little brother.

Time

Time of the day? Well.. this was taken in the evening in my bedroom when i was done brainstorming about creative ideas on light painting.

Lighting

Actually, this was my first try with light painting. The light used in this photo is an iPhone's flashlight. Moreover, it was a trial shot to see how light painting works but the result was splendid.

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon 60D with 18-135 lens kit, a tripod and an iPhone torchlight.

Inspiration

As I mentioned earlier this was the first time I tried light painting. Like a normal human being, after I saw a Facebook photo of light dancing on screen I figured out what it was and then Googled "light painting" and saw tons of photos where light is whizzing all around. Many of them looked similar. For example the steel wool light painting photos. I spent a lot of time on many websites after that reading about light painting. After a day or two I set out for my own light painting adventure with whatever i could find in my house. Hence the iPhone flash light and my brother.

Editing

Yes I did process the photo a bit because the dark room that I used to capture this image lit up when the photo came out. So i had to reduce the brightness a bit. No other changes were made to the photo.

In my camera bag

Usually, I carry my Canon 60D with the 18-135mm lens and a 50mm f1.4 lens. Both of those lenses pretty much does all my work.

Feedback

What I would tell others would be to give yourself some time to come up with something creative and not be always inspired by others. Sometimes the best things are just in front of you. Maybe you don't need all the professional equipment to come up with spectacular photos. What you need is some time to think about what you want in the frame.
