I took this shot at the University of Indianapolis during a regular season game against Bellarmine(KY) University. It was close the whole game, with UIndy barely pulling out a win with a last-second bucket.Time
I took this shot early on in the first half of the game when things were still heating up between the two teams.Lighting
Since I was using available lighting, I had to set my white balance to florescent to give the photo a natural look.Equipment

I saw this shot coming. The ref blew the whistle and both players started to slow down, so the snap looks like a collision when in reality it was the action coming to a standstill.Editing
As a photojournalist, it is important to me to keep post-processing to a minimum. I did have to crop this particular shot in a bit and lightened it a little with some noise reduction. I also cut back on saturation.In my camera bag
I always carry two camera bodies so I can have a long lens and a wide angle at my disposal at all times.Feedback
To get my background out of focus, I set the depth of field at 2.8 with a shutter speed of 5/100 of a second, and then let the action come to me. It takes both patience and preparation. You have to anticipate what will happen next to be ready when the shot is there.
