Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the outdoors art exhibition "Sculpture in Pilane" in Sweden.

Time

Time of day was in the afternoon, so nothing special here.

Lighting

Nothing exciting - an overcast day in the midst of the afternoon.

Equipment

This was some years ago, so the camera used here is a handheld Nikon D70s with its kit lens Nikon Nikkor AF-S DX 18-70/3,5-4,5 G IF-ED at its widest,18 mm (eq to 27 mm Full Frame).

Inspiration

I was visiting the art exhibition Sculture in Pilane some years ago. I usually go there every year - the standard of works exhibited are really high. On the path between two works I found this little pond, with the two smallish trees on each side and with an undisturbed view of of woodlands. No people, no art works and no buildings or cars. Still the scene, though totally nature made, looked quite manmade in a sort of zen garden style. A kind of garden that appeals to me. Also it didn't look like Swedish nature, but more Asian and I stopped for a little while while composing a relaxing photograph.

Editing

Quite obviosly I transformed this into black and white. I also increased contrasts. I used Nik Collections plugin Silver Efex Pro, which nowadays are sold by DxO.

In my camera bag

Normally I will carry a Nikon D600 with a Sigma 24-105 mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art.

Feedback

When doing this I went for the gut feeling. Also, since I was in a sculpture park I was clicking away and had my "camera eyes" on all the time. Try out lots of different angles and heights over the ground. I would deeply recommend to take a lot of pictures. I estimate that 1 out of 200 images will be kind of interesting :-)
