Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken in the New Forrest National Park in England.

Time

This was taken in the late evening as the sun was about to set over the English Channel.

Lighting

It was a great evening on this day, with some moody clouds to break up the flaming sky adding real contrast and depth.

Equipment

This was taken on a Canon 650D DSLR camera with a 10-22mm Canon lens.

Inspiration

I really wanted to have a frame within a frame image with lots of heavy Bokeh to show how easy it can be to capture great images, even with a phone camera.

Editing

This is actually a composite of 2 images. The boat sailing past and the background are the same original image, duplicated. The background has a soft bokeh filter applied and the foreground is cropped and aligned to look as though it is the focus of the phone. The phone and hands are a separate image, cropped and extracted.

In my camera bag

I usually take everything I have, lenses, tripods, filters and camera. You never know what you'll need 'in the field'.

Feedback

This process can be applied to just about any picture, but I felt this worked well to frame the boat nicely against a softer background.
