Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from my apartment in North Carolina during a "winters" day. Our winters don't get much snow, but they can get cold for our feathered friends. She was just sitting on the post trying to stay warm when I was able to capture this image of her.

Time

I believe this was taken in the morning hours just after daylight. I was unemployed at the time and had just taken up photography so i was still honing my craft.

Lighting

It was just an overcast day that day.

Equipment

I used my canon rebel xs that I had purchased recently to fill the time before I started another job. The lens was just a kit lens that came with the camera. I believe it was a 70-300. No tripod or flash were used for this image.

Inspiration

I have always loved wildlife so this just ended being in my wheel house so to speak. I still love taking photos of the birds but I also have a passion for capturing our lions and tigers at the sanctuary my wife and I volunteer at................. :-)

Editing

Being so green in the photography field at the time, I just used Picasa photo editing software to process my images. Just mainly worked on bringing out her color a bit to really contrast the darker background.

In my camera bag

I carry 2 camera bodies in my bag. An SL1 and a T6I are the bodies I use as well as different telephoto lenses and a wide angle lens for landscape photography. I have a 70-200 F4 as well as a Tamron 150-600 that is always with me !!!

Feedback

Patience is a virtue when photographing wildlife in my opinion. Just sitting and waiting is hard for me, but I believe the end result is well worth the time waiting and watching nature play out right in front of you.
