I took this photo in my home studio in Reykjavik, Iceland. I love working in the studio because I learn more and more about light everytime I do.Time
This picture was taken in the afternoon in summertime... before my son got too tired ;)Lighting
I was playing around in the studio and thought about using strobes to light up both my models and the beautiful Kiev 88 camera but in the end I only used natural light and took the photo in 1/2 second (pretty challenging with a 2 year old).Equipment
I had my Kiev 88 (the subject) on a tripod and stood on a chair with my 60D and leaned over to get the right shot. My lens is a 24-70 mm canon L lens.Inspiration
I have always loved looking through the viewfinder of old medium format cameras and theres something about it that sometimes I think is more beautiful than the actual photos. I wanted to get that feeling across somehow and as I was in my studio taking pictures of my son and husband with my Kiev camera connected to the strobes I thought: "well this is my chance to finally take that photo I have been wanting to do"Editing
I cropped it just a tiny bit and turned it into black and white. In my camera bag
I always have my Canon 60D and my canon 24-70mm L lens. I also have a canon speedlite and some remote triggers. Some filters, both ND filters and magnifying filters (well at least until I can afford the 100mm macro) I also have the canon kit lens 18-55 mm for wider shots. Then of course some spare batteries and cloths to clean my lenses.Feedback
Well I guess my advise would be to get the angle just right. Shoot from above without tilting the camera. this also would be easier without a moving subject like a 2 year old boy. I would love to try this again sometime, maybe with some beautiful landscape.
