Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my home in Chicago. I am self taught and when I first got my camera I wanted to explore all different styles of photography.

Time

I took this photo in the middle of the day.

Lighting

I wanted this photo to stand out. I was new to photography and was really trying to get creative and see what I could do playing around with light . I used a window that had outside light shining in through soft white curtains.

Equipment

I just used my camera and my tripod for this photo.

Inspiration

I had a close friend that wanted to have some boudoir shots taken. She knew I was trying to explore all avenues with my newly purchased camera and asked if I would be interested in taking the photos for her. Of course I was up for the challenge! However, I wanted my friend to have good photos at the end and I had no experience with boudoir shots. So I spent a day googling poses and lighting and tips and used myself to test out what I was reading. So for this shot I set my camera on the tripod and set the timer and ran over to the window to pose, quite a few times to get the pose just right. I was very happy with the outcome of this one.

Editing

I changed the tones more to black and white to really contrast between the light and skin. However, i decided to leave some colour in the underwear and I think it gives the photo a nice touch .

In my camera bag

Just my Nikon camera, charger, my favourite lenses which is the 55-200 means then also my 18-55mm. And my tripod as well.

Feedback

Play with lighting! I thought I would need some fancy materials to create a dramatic photo but really I just needed a window with outside light, my camera and a very small amount of editing.
