This is a superb shot Kira. Did you use the timer for this . That makes it even more spectacular in my eyes. We all know that timing is ALL in ballet and you have mastered that and the shot too....voted my no 1

This photo was taken during a Regional Dance Competition in Andover, MA. I have won a title in both this Regional Competition (though with a different dance. LOL ) and at the World Finals Competition, held in Virginia Beach, VA. So basically, I have a Regional and National Dance title. I have also had my work choreography featured in DANCE TEACHER MAGAINE, as an EDITORS' CHOICE Winner for Video of the Month. Another piece of choreography, Geisha Ballerina, won a DANCE SPIRIT MAGAINE Future Star of the Month EDITORS' AND VIEWERS' CHOICE award, and was mentioned in their magazine. I have choreographed evening length ballets, partnering with New England Light Opera for my "Die Fledermaus Suite", and commissioned Berklee College of Music professors for an original score that was conducted live during my WORLD PREMIERE of THE TELL-TALE HEART BALLET, a Poe-tic Ballet. (based on the famous Edgar Allen Poe short story.) I call myself a ballerina/choreographer/photographer, because that seems to describe me best. Photography for me, is a natural outgrowth of my creative nature. I enjoy expressing myself creatively and find photography gives a very satisfying different dimension to my work. As a dancer, I do feel I can take great dance photos, as I know "just when" to click to achieve the best shot. (note: one needs to anticipate the dance movement just slightly, to allow for the tiny bit of lag-time between "clicking" and the actual apex of the movement) People enjoy my dance photography because I can capture the images in compelling ways, born from knowing the dance movements inside out.Time

The joy, lightness and effervescence of this jump always stands out for me among the thousands of dance photos I have done. The height of the jump is so perfectly framed by the stage and the jump is at its peak. All this combines for a stunning capture.Editing
No.In my camera bag
Which bag? My ballet bag or my photography bag? Or both???...LOL... Well both bags feature snacks and my beloved iPad. I believe that I do my best work (dancing and photography) on a full stomach, and I can always be counted on having snacks and a water bottle with me. Other incidentals include rewetting drops for my contact lenses and lipstick. Looking and feeling your best makes for a happy dancer/choreographer/photographer.Feedback
Dance photography is rather advanced photography. If you aren't familiar with ballet or other styles of dance, there is still MUCH that you can creatively capture without knowing the specific dance movements. How a dancer throws shadows on the floor, can be a fascinating study, and one that even those unfamiliar with ballet can achieve great results in. The dancer's reflection in a studio mirror can also be the source of endless creativity and some amazing and unique captures. I would suggest attending dance rehearsals, classes and performances, and if allowed, try your hand at dance photography focusing on the basics of composition or trying out the suggestions I gave above. After awhile, you will become familiar with specific dance movements, will learn to correctly anticipate them, and at that point, you are well on your way to discovering the joy that dance is. Your unique captures will inspire others to love dance, too. BEST WISHES AND GOOD LUCK!!!!!
