Iceland Whale bones, church and northern lights. Taken outside my Airbnb in OCTOBER 2023. My wife and I found some old whale bones on the ground, these are typical in this area as it had a history of whale hunting and we thought these were unusual and a great subject for the foreground. We had preplanned my shot earlier in the day and wanted to include the church in my composition as this type of church with the red roof is also very typical in the Icelandic landscape. We were was lucky enough to capture the northern lights for the fist time later that day and this was the perfect picture. It highlights the wonders of Icelands landscape, the beautiful northern lights and stars, along with the whale bones and church showing the history and culture. This shot was taken just outside of Vik on the south coast. We enjoyed a hot chocolate or two this night as this was a long exposure. xx
