This perfectly descriptive-named Cattleya alliance hybrid is an amazingly well grown specimen plant with numerous flower spikes, a few of which are captured here. Seen at the San Francisco Orchid Show.

Sophrolaeliocattleya (from Sophronitis, Laelia and Cattleya, its parent genera) is a nothogenus of artificial intergeneric orchid hybrids. It is abbreviated as Slc. in the horticultural trade. As of 2008, × Sophrolaeliocattleya is defunct, with the genus Sophronitis having been merged into Cattleya.

Many growers and hybridizers still feel compelled to use the old name in breeding, and because many orchids were already registered under the old name, Sophrolaeliocattleya instead of Laeliocattleya.
