The elegantly restored and magnificent Flying Scotsman. A Pacific Steam Locomotive built in 1923 and was employed as a long distance express train between London and Edinburgh. The locomotive set two world records for steam traction, becoming the first steam locomotive to be officially authenticated at reaching 100 miles per hour (160.9 km-h) on 30 November 1934. Public subscription saved the locomotive from the scrapyard in 1963. After a 10 year overhaul at a cost of £4.5m the "Scotsman" is now back on the tracks and regularly touring the UK. Seen here on the heritage "Bluebell Railway" in Sussex passing another locomotive in real need of a restoration too.
