Geranium maderense, is a biennial species which forms very large beautiful mounds with 5-lobed leaves up to a foot across, all growing from long stems from a single stalk in the middle. The second year it blooms, having a profusion of pink flowers which open over a long period of time on multiple compound flowering stems The mass of pink flowers in spring is produced from the very thick stalk and arises from the growing point of the plant and thus the plant will not survive after blooming unless basal offshoots could be produced. It must seed easily as there often seem to be young plants growing to replace the blooming and dying ones.
