Location
This photo was taken at Woodlawn Lake in San Antonio on the West side. It is my go-to lake for sunsets and birds.Time
This was taken at sunset after a storm had passed through leaving the lake spilling over the spillway which formed an illuminated leading line in this photo.Lighting
I took this photo with the sun setting to the left, illuminating the water spilling over the barrier in a perfect arc across the scene.Equipment
This was shot with my Nikon D750 camera and Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 lens.Inspiration
I always look to go out when I can after or during a storm to see what it is going to look like out on the lake. And in this case I was rewarded with this gorgeous scene, with a make-shift waterfall over the spillway, lit up by the gorgeous golden-hour light, and dramatic clouds in the sky.Editing
I edit all my photos in Lightroom Classic because I shoot in raw and always underexpose my landscapes so as not to lose any detail in the sky. I then look to LRC to bring out the vivid colors and recover the shadows. In my camera bag
I always carry three lens when I go out for a sunset shoot like this: my 24-70mm for normal wide angle shots, my 14mm ultrawide for heavy sky drama, and my 200-500mm in case any interesting birds show up (hawks, herons, egrets, etc). Also have a spare battery and my remote shutter release for long exposures.Feedback
Monitor the weather and have a go-to place in mind in case a situation like this arises.
