We were walking our beautiful golden retriever along Orewa Beach, New Zealand, when we saw the surfers playing.Time
It was early afternoon, and I did not expect an opportunity to shoot anything; hence, I left the camera I usually use at home. Luckily, I had my iPhone with me and could not resist the temptation to see what I could achieve.Lighting
As mentioned before, I took this photo in the early afternoon, It was very windy and dark clouds were building up on the horizon. I hoped to get some nice action photos and contrasts between the kites and the clouds started to take photos.Equipment
iPhone 13 Pro Max was handheld with single shots (Not burst mode), holding the phone as low and close to the breaking waves as possible.Inspiration
I have never really made time to take action shots. However, when I saw the surfers I was tempted to see what I could achieve. Using my iPhone I did not expect any spectacular results. I took about 75 photos with this photo being my favourite.Editing
Currently, I am using Lightroom (Cloud) to edit my photos. As a novice, I try everything I know and hear about editing my photos. So unfortunately I have not yet developed a particular style. In general, I start off with the global adjustments to get the WB sorted. Local adjustments to the clouds, kites, and waves. I particularly work on emphasising the kites.In my camera bag
At the time, I did not possess any camera equipment. However, I normally borrow my wife's work camera on weekends to learn photography. However, I plan to have a good camera with three lenses, wide-angle, mid-range and zoom for landscaping.Feedback
Patience, patience and patience and take a truckload of photos. The photo I had thought would be a great shot while shooting ended up in the trash. Give yourself some options.
