Christmas Fern (Polystichum acrostichoides) pinnae [i.e., "leaflets"] create a diagonal pattern on the forest floor after surviving the winter intact at the former Bayberry Environmental Education Center (now defunct), Junius Ponds, New York, USA. This was taken April 1st and converted from a Fujichrome 100 slide in my archives. The camera lens was a 2X50mm [100mm] macro at 1:2.5, exposure 1-60th sec. at f-11 with a 2B warming filter and fill-flash. The weather included bright, diffuse altostratus translucidus clouds.
