the famous Lok no. 7 on the way to the summit of mount Rigi
The legendary Locomotive 7 is the world's only running rack-and-pinion steam locomotive with a standing boiler.
The steam locomotive was built in 1873 by the Swiss Locomotive and Machine Factory SLM in Winterthur. After 64 years of service, it was decommissioned in 1937. In 1959, it was moved to the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne.
For the 150th anniversary of the Rigi Bahnen in 2021, the locomotive was again made roadworthy and loaned to RIGI BAHNEN AG by the Swiss Museum of Transport for three years.
