Looking toward the Spring Mountains at dusk on Friday, October 13th, 2023, we see a fairly rare phenomenon known as parhelion or a sundog. This is when the refraction of light around sunset happens in the sky. You only see half of what would otherwise be a pure sun dog (which is two refractions to the left and right), and this wider shot shows the faint glow of illumination on the rails and a Union Pacific consist headed toward me.
