Any thoughts on the purpose of a teensy little door like this?

I believe it to have been the entrance for sheep and goats to the corral. It would certainly not have been so well painted, nor the wall whitewashed, at that time. The reason it has a number is down to an over officious town clerk, who decided that any wall with a door, constitutes an address, and therefore merits taxation.

I love the door color, but I actually was more fascinated with the stone sidewalk in front.
