One very special time of year, when the hatcheries release millions of smelt into the Lewis River, it invites all sorts of wildlife, in abundance, to feast! These seals don’t typically live in the Lewis River, as the waters half of the year are too shallow and sparse for food. They will travel sometimes hundreds of miles from the Pacific, up the Columbia and to the Lewis for this smelt run every single year! This beautiful girl, who I call Two (as she had a 2 branded in her back for tracking) was very interested in me & gave me quite the “runway” show! Her barks were beautiful! The photos of her are some of my favorite to date!
