Location
Taken in my garden in Melbourne Victoria Australia. This photo was a chance find. I just went out to look at the sky and turned my head to see this little fella sitting on a bud . Well I dashed inside and grabved my camera flash and diffuser and headed back outside for a weevil photoshoot.Time
It was actually mid morning the sun was pretty bright but tree was in shadeLighting
The lighting for shoot was not ideal, but with a gentle hand I managed to manipulate the tree, branch, and bud into better situation, and composition ideal to get some great shots. Flash helped as it blacked the background, which I really found appealing to the composition, as it would of been quite messy with all the other foilage in shot.Equipment
It was a handheld shot taken with Olympus E-M1mrk 2 60mm. Godox flasg TT350. Settings were F10, 1/250 ISO 400Inspiration
My inspiration has come from all the great photographers I see regularly on Instagram. Especially Brandon JamesThe man behind the aewsome Cygnus diffuser system that I recently purchased but on this occassion didnt have time to set up. Its always been on my bucket list to capture a weevil so imagine my joy when I came face to face with one in my garden. I didnt have time to think I just got to shooting.Editing
Yes but only a small amount of sharpning adjustments in development Raw colour correction in Luminar Neo.In my camera bag
Iused to shoot Canon but recently moved over to OMD system so my bag has shrunk for my macro set up. Olympus OmdEm 1 mrk 2 Godox 350, Raydox 250 and 60mm. Thats the basic kit. I have now added a Cygnus diffuser tooFeedback
You have to persevere and have patients as hit rate on macro can be low when you start out. Find inanimate objects to practice on and when ready choose right time of day as insects are slower less skittish early morning. Keep practising and you will find the shots you have been wanting to get.
