Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo next to a highway along the outskirts of Thika Town, Kenya.

Time

I took this picture in the evening, that's around 6 pm or thereabout. It was just an evening after work when i just decided to go for a drive after a tough day at work.

Lighting

I wanted the image to capture the 'end of the day' feeling. The women were just there by sheer coincidence, It was supposed to be a nature shot.

Equipment

This was shot on a canon 7D 18-135 mm STM. Shot in Raw of course

Inspiration

Prior to this photo, I had been struggling to find good pictures outside my studio, where I work. So I decided to go for a drive during the golden hour just to see what that looks like. After a 20-minute drive, I didn't like the views I was getting because the highway was flanked by towering trees obstructing the sunset. So I decided to stop by a feeder road to make a U-turn and there it was, one of the best views I've seen in a long time. I just stopped there and took it in since I didn't have my camera. It was almost like this view had called me outside my office. So I checked the time and decided to come back the next day at the same time. As fate would have it I came back a few days later to a new view of women just walking into the shot as they headed home. The moral of the story is to listen to your inner voice, sometimes its calling you to greatness.

Editing

Yes, I lifted the shadows, balanced out the colors and also gave it some warmth.

In my camera bag

Just a camera and the only 18-135 mm lens I own. I used to own a 5d mark iii and a 50mm that was stolen shortly before covid so I'm working with what i have left.

Feedback

Always listen to your inner voice as a photographer. Having a means of mobility also helps to get you where the universe calls you to be. Lastly, be honest and diligent in your work because the universe rewards you in more ways than just money. This is by far my best work! Happy shooting!
