A photo that represents a portico, an open and covered gallery between two colonnades or rows of arcades, which separates the courtyard of the Great Mosque of Sousse and the prayer hall.
The vaults or ceilings are supported by columns, pillars or arcades supported by two rows of columns, or by a wall and a row of columns.
The Great Mosque of Sousse is the main mosque in the Tunisian city of Sousse. Located at the entrance to the medina, it was erected by the Aghlabid ruler Aboul Abbas I in 850-851. This mosque is emblematic of a city which, a few years after the reign of Ziadet-Allah I, became the second city of Ifriqiya and the Sahel. Subsequently, the building was enlarged during the reign of Ibrahim II (875-902)
