Behind The Lens

Location

Here's the power of wind at its best, causing outrageous waves on the shoreline of Lake Michigan in Grand Haven!

Time

A fellow photographer and I made the trip from where we live early afternoon knowing it would be worth bringing our cameras and equipment to Grand Haven Pere and its Lighthouse! When we arrived it was around 5:00 pm. This capture was taken at 5:17 pm!

Lighting

It was a gloomy cloudy windy rainy day, it was perfectly natural lighting for a dramatic shot of the waves crashing off the lighthouse wall!

Equipment

The camera I used is a Nikon D3500 with a Sigma 18-300mm telephoto lens and a tripod to mount my camera onto. If I didn't have my tripod, I wouldn't have gotten such a clear picture you see due to the powerful winds that just about blew me over a few times lol!

Inspiration

I was determined and "focused" on the lighthouse knowing the wind would cause such an outstanding huge splash! While taking countless photos to finally have this gem of a photo!

Editing

I didn't have to do too much post processing to this capture. But yes I did just to correct the image to how it looked as if you were there.

In my camera bag

I have my Nikon D3500 camera with the Sigma lens attached along with a tripod, a couple of extra memory cards, a lens cloth, an extra battery because you never know, my phone in the side pocket and a bottle of water in the other side pocket!

Feedback

When it comes to getting a photo something like this one, make sure you increase the shutter speed and shoot in continuous mode.
