Location
The photo was taken at my dogphotography studio Motherpuppers in The Netherlands. This dog named Joy came in for an end of life session. Whitch I find difficult shoots because there is a lot of emotion involved.Time
It was a saturday I will never forget. The moment Joy came in, she was such a happy dog, running and jumping around. You would never tell she had allready multiple cancerous growths at that time. Only 3 weeks later I got the heartbreaking message that she passed away. That saturday is a day that will always be remembered as a happy, positive day. We were just in time doing that shoot. It was at daytime around 2pm.Lighting
I use a flashlight with every shoot. The background colour blended in very well with her fur I think.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon R6 camera with a 16-35mm lens.Inspiration
Joy was a 12 years old dog of some friends of mine. I asked them to come over because I wanted them to have a beautiful memory before she would pass away. I did the End of life Session straight from the heart. I knew how much these photos would mean for them when she wasn't here anymore, that made me want to do it even more.Editing
I first edited the basics in Lightroom. The rest I did in photoshop. I edit all my photos this way.In my camera bag
To be honest, I just have the gear I need for my studio shoots. I bougth a lot of lenses at the begin but didn't use it much. So I sold all my gear and now have my Canon 16-35mm lense, camera, flashlights and backdrops.Feedback
Whether you shoot dogs, cats or other animals, the feeling you have during a shoot makes a lot of difference. You have to interact with the animal so you need to be in the right mood. Besides the right settings, the connection with the animal is the most important at that time. So make sure you start the session with a positive and relaxed vibe! The key to connect to any animal is patience, patience and patience!!
