It was a very cold day in Los Angeles. The electricity had gone out in our house so we checked in to the Loews Hotel in Hollywood. As we were walking to dinner, we stopped to cross the street; I looked up and this is what I saw.Time
It was about sunset, somewhere between 5:00pm and 6:00pm. The sun was setting and its light hit the top of this art deco masterpiece.Lighting
It was by happenstance the best time of the day. It had been gray and overcast but as the sun set, the clouds parted enough to let the sun shine through.Equipment
I must admit, this was not a planned photo. All I had with me was my iPhone 14; I just opened the camera and quickly framed the shot as the sun was setting.I amInspiration
I am fascinated by art deco. Los Angeles used to be full of beautiful art deco architecture. But it slowly being erased to make way for newer and far less interesting buildings.Editing
There was not post-processing tinkering with the photo. It is just the way I took it.In my camera bag
Usually it's just me and my Sony RX10. I confess to usually using the Auto settings and then tinkering with the photo. This day I only had my iPhone 14.Feedback
This was a photo of chance. I like to trust my eye and capture images as I see them; document what I am seeing; and capturing the interesting, sometimes beautiful, sometimes odd, things I see around me.
