Behind The Lens

Location

Oakley, 2 yr old heeler, and our texan rescue Remington, 10 month old catahoula leopard mix... were finally able to play equally together. Remi was diagnosed severe hip dysplasia at 6 months... we were just waiting for his growth plates to fully develop before having surgery to repair. He was never able to play like a typical puppy... (we chalked some of his issues up to just being a puppy rescued from bad circumstances) . He was always sore. Limping and crying after trying to keep up with the other dogs. This photo was taken three days after a Lyme positive diagnosis and antibiotics started.!!! Most of his leg issues have cleared up!!! This was the first day he behaved like any other 10 month old pup!!! The two dogs were as astounded as I was!!

Time

We couldn't believe Remingtons energy levels. A normal day would have seen us lounging around until noon before heading out to play... but this day was different. He had ZOOMIES at 10 am!!! We had no choice bit to head out and let them run off this insane energy burst!!

Lighting

Busy pups didn't leave time for thought in setting up a photo for all the right things to fall into place. I'm thankful that the shadows weren't directly on the pups, so it allowed for a clearer shot.

Equipment

Funny enough, I'm a Canon girl... but I was so excited to just see Remington play ... like really play... so I just used what I had on hand. My cell phone of all things!! Samsung galaxy s21

Inspiration

Sheer joy! Just to see Remington in all his puppy delight... I didn't want to miss one second of it.

Editing

No post processing... just a slight crop. The dogs did all the work!!

In my camera bag

I have a Canon d60, with many lenses that have taken a lot of work to build up again as most of my equipment was destroyed in a bad car accident.... each one bought with so much thought.... A good flash, remote and lots of toys and squuekies to get the attention of babies and pups. Lol

Feedback

Whatever you have on hand, use it. Capture the moments that matter.... even if it's the wrong lense, bad lighting, less than perfect background... if all you have is a cell phone, TAKE THE SHOT! You'll never regret the shots you take, even if they're not perfect, but you may truly regret every shot you didn't take. The memories are what matter most!!
