Behind The Lens

Location

I was out with my fellow classmates (I'm a student) looking for things to photograph and spotted these flowers in a pot next to an old church in a local graveyard. It was the only real colour to be seen.

Time

I took the photo at around 12noon, the sun had been out but it was still chilly!

Lighting

I had no additional light for this photo and was lucky that it wasn't too cloudy. The pot if flowers was slightly shaded but this allowed for even light.

Equipment

The camera was an older Nikon D3200 and the lense was the 18-55 kit lense that came with the camera!

Inspiration

I was drawn to the colour of the flower and was just lucky enough to have a little friend sitting in the petal. It stayed still for a long time so I was very lucky!

Editing

In order to bring out the colour, because the shot was in the shade, I used Adobe Lightroom for post processing.

In my camera bag

I normally have the camera itself, two lenses including caps, my sd card reader and phone adaptor. I also like to keep a lense cloth handy and I always keep some spare cash in my bag too... you never know when you might need it!

Feedback

Don't be afraid to get super close to the object and see how that feels. Also, because I didn't have a tripod out with me, I leaned on the edge of the plant pot for stability and. I do this often... Just find something to lean on that lets your stabilise as best you can!
