Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my back yard on a humid, early autumn morning. I wasn't planning on taking photos that day, but I am so glad I did. I love this little gem.

Time

I clearly remember taking this photo as it was the day after my daughters birthday. I had planned on a day full of housework and was hoping to get some time to review the mass of photos I have already taken. That all went out the window with the first load of washing for the day. I was hanging the washing on the line and noticed the tree behind the house bursting to life and what seemed like thousands of bugs buzzing around. So I grabbed my phone and spent the next hour and half lost in a little macro world of discovery.

Lighting

I am lucky that my back yard is very shady. This means nearly any time of day is great lighting for some macro nature shots.

Equipment

This was taken with my Samsung Galaxy S20+. I do not own a camera and have only got my phone to work with so I am incredible proud of my photos. I havea macro lense for my phone and a couple of different tripods, however as this was a spur of the moment shoot I didn't use any of them. Just me and my phone.

Inspiration

Honestly, I can find inspiration ANYWHERE. I am constantly looking around and stopping every few metres to take photos or look at somthing a little closer or at a different perspective. It was the sounds of the bugs and critters hanging around that drew my attention though.

Editing

I would have done some cropping and adjusting the ambient lighting and shadows etc, however, I honestly cannot remember.

In my camera bag

I always have my phone and a small travel tripod with me, even when I go to work.

Feedback

Try a different perspective!! Some of my favourite shots have come from seeing something interesting and shooting it from different perspectives. You could be surprised at the difference this small, but noticable, change this can make to your photos.
