Location
While on a photography break in Scotland with two good friends, we heard about this derelict castle, so hunted it down and caught the waters of the loch in the perfect condition to act as a mirror! As an armature photographer I was more than happy with the result, hope you enjoy it also.Time
This was taken late afternoon on a gloomy day, with dark high cloud cover, but the light it produced gave a great edge to the shotLighting
When shooting outdoors, 'fortune favours the brave' it rained heavily all the way to this location, but stopped a few minutes after arrival and gave us this great light. Don't let things put you off, be brave and go for it, you never know with Scottish weather what's just around the corner!Equipment
Shot on my canon EOS R, with Canon 24-105, on a tripod with my feet in the water in wellies!Inspiration
As the foul weather cleared, the light turned beautiful, and the angle of the small amount of sun available lit the castle and distant landscape perfectly. Grabbed it while I could.Editing
There was some anti-vandal fencing around part of the castle base, so I removed it in Photoshop, along with a couple of 'No Entry' signs. As these were not an actual part of the castle itself, I felt fine about removing them.In my camera bag
I carry with me my EOS R, 24-105 F4, my nifty fifty and 70-200 F2.8. these are always with me and usually give me what I need. I have recently added the 16mm F2.8 for shooting landscape and night skies.Feedback
Be there! If you don't go to these places and deal with the weather, you can't be 'lucky' and in the right place at the right time :)
