This photo was taken in my backyard in Southern Oregon.Time
This is a memorable photo, it was the fall after being evacuated from fire for a good portion of the end of summer. It was a few hours after dark and the moon was incredible. This picture was taken October 6, 2020 at 10:40 p.m.Lighting
I wanted this image to really capture the natural light and color of the moon during this forest fire activity. I was just beginning my self taught learning adventure with photography, so it took several test shots to get the right iso setting, which turned out to be very low. There was no other light used, I was standing in the dark of my back yard.Equipment
I used my Minolta MN35Z camera on a tripod to take this picture. No flash or any other equipment was used.Inspiration
The moon itself inspired me to take this photo. There had been several large forest fires that summer, many of which were still active. I went outside that evening and the moon was incredible, so close, huge and fiery red orange. I wanted to be able to share the incredible sight, and it was the perfect opportunity to begin learning about night photography. This was my first time photographing the moon, and the first thing I learned was that I needed to get out the tripod if there was any hope of a non blurry photo.Editing
No. I did no post-processing with this photo. My goal was to capture this beautiful moment in it's natural state. In my camera bag
My Minolta MN35Z camera, it is simple to use and nice and small, things I value, especially simplicity. Snacks, always pack snacks. I never know where a photo adventure might take me or how long it may keep my attention, so snacks.Feedback
Use a tri-pod, it really helps for the low light of night. Also don't be afraid to take lots of pictures of the same thing or time. You can always delete the ones you don't like later. I have found that doing that I have learned more about how to get better shots and gotten some unexpected great pictures. Most importantly, have fun with it.
