Aquilegia, named for the spurs at the backside of the flower, like eagle's talons. These are mostly short-lived perennials, growing from seed the first year and then blooming the next, self seeding and constantly being replaced by new seedlings. The tail trails and the stamen clusters of columbines in their many color forms always bring a sense of awe and delight.
